Intro to Oakland’s Coffee Industry
Food Craft Institute invites you to a one-time open house where you can learn a thing or two about Third Wave coffee!
Oakland is home to some of the world’s leading coffee roasters & retailers. Spend this introductory evening getting acquainted with the lesser known history of this East Bay hub as a key player in the transition from coffee as commodity to the “Third Wave” era of connoisseurship. This demo night is also a sneak peak of Food Craft Institute’s Coffee Roasting & Retail Master Course. Students enrolled in the course will spend five weeks with uncontested leaders of the contemporary coffee world, learning hands-on techniques and practitioner skills but also personal details about their successful coffee businesses taught in their actual shops, roasteries, kitchens and warehouses.
Missing out on the chance to attend CoffeeCon? On February 4th, Bay Area residents will be able to experience their very own small-scale coffee convention, with hands-on demos and instruction provided by Oakland-based businesses at the forefront of Northern California’s blooming coffee industry.
The night will begin at 6:00pm with demos from coffee farmer cooperative Catracha Coffee Company, green coffee importers Royal Coffee and green coffee sellers & home roasting educators Sweet Maria’s. At 7:00pm, we’ll begin a viewing of The Way Back to Yarasquin followed by Q&A with the star of the film, Catracha Coffee Company founder Mayra Orellana-Powell.
Be sure to chat with Food Craft Institute staff on-site to learn how to enroll in Coffee Roasting & Retail so that you too can enjoy a career in the coffee business.
