Beer Buffs! Ale Admirers! Join us for a two hour Pairing Lab – an interactive craft beer tasting and food pairing with Master Cicerone, Nicole Erny.
We’ll Geek Out on:
– Pro beer tasting methods and techniques
– Developing a vocabulary to describe flavor and aroma characteristics
– Creating the perfect pint; an explanation of the brewing process
– Sampling a variety of beers and examining how beer flavors combine with different foods and ingredients, for better or for worse
Nicole will be demystifying brews and breaking down the elements that make beer’s flavor spin into distinctively different and delicious directions.
You’ll walk away with a better understanding of beer sensory analysis, a new appreciation of beer styles and characteristics and guidelines to carefully select ingredients to complement your choice of beer.
All proceeds from Geek Out events will support FCI’s educational scholarships for low-income food makers. Since 2011 FCI has helped over 100 small food businesses launch or grow, with over 65% of students being women or minorities and 50% receiving financial aid.
Nicole Erny is the fourth person, first woman and youngest person to acchieve the title of Master Cicerone. This Certification culminated from 2 days of intensive written, oral, and tasting exams which were proctored and graded by highly respected and experienced members of the beer industry. Of the 11 candidates that sat for the exam in November of 2011, Nicole was the only new Master Cicerone to emerge.
Nicole has made television, print and radio appearances, but her passion remains in connecting people with quality beer. Her beer education and beer and food pairing events are aimed at the curious, but casual consumer, but are also toothesome enough for knowledgeable beer lovers
For the first time, The Food Craft Institute (FCI) is opening its doors to the public for its new Geek Out tasting series covering coffee, charcuterie, beer and more. Working with our wide network of Bay Area’s founders, masters and makers, we’re inviting dedicated food fans to geek out on the styles, science, techniques and tools of your favorite foods – giving you access normally reserved for industry pros. Whether you’re a casual foodie or a serious aficionado you’ll walk away with mad new skills and knowledge.
