Patrick’s appreciation for different beer styles began in college. First, because he appreciated the deeper more complex flavors in craft beers and, second, nobody ever drank his stash at a party. This appreciation for craft beer grew into a home brewing hobby after his girlfriend bought him a home brewing kit on a whim. Little did he or she know it would grow into a lifelong passion and career. After about a year of home brewing, visiting local breweries, and of course sampling many beers, Patrick began volunteering his time at the late San Francisco Brewing Company. When he started spending more time volunteering than working his “real” job, Patrick and the SF brew master realized it was time for a shift. While continuing to brew at home weekly, Patrick accepted a position as the assistant brewer for SF Brewing Company in 2008. After the closing of SF Brewing Company in 2010, he began volunteering at Thirsty Bear Brewing Company to keep his feet wet. This volunteer position soon turned into an assistant brewer position. For a year, Patrick split his time brewing for both Thirsty Bear and Beach Chalet, learning the many intricacies of brewing. Eventually, these two part time assistant brewing positions morphed into a full time Brewer position at Thirsty Bear. Patrick believes that beer transcends all classes. It keeps life fun and interesting. You can share the good and bad of life over a pint of beer with anyone.
